Senator Jim King Endowed Scholarship-College of Medicine

Recipient must be a student in the College of Medicine committed to serving the profession. Applicants will be considered on the basis of family income, economic hardship, single-parent family, first generation in college, challenges of the applicant’s undergraduate institution (based on evaluation of the rigors of its curriculum), SAT and MCAT scores of applicants, geographic challenges, relative personal challenges, achievements, civics and intercultural awareness, leadership, initiative, honors and awards, specialized knowledge, and unusual characteristics. Preference will be given to a student who is committed to serving the profession as a pediatrician in rural health care and/or those segments of society that are underserved.

One of the purposes of this scholarship is to increase diversity at Florida State University. Any student may apply to be considered for the award; however, it is the preference of the donor that the recipient be disadvantaged, including those of African American, Hispanic, Asian and American Indian descent.
